About the KCC Loan Limit & Interest Calculator
The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) gives farmers a revolving short-term loan for crop cultivation, post-harvest expenses, household needs and upkeep of farm assets. Your limit is not a random number – banks work it out from a fixed method in the RBI and NABARD guidelines.
How the limit is worked out
- Crop finance = Scale of Finance for the crop × area. The Scale of Finance is set each year for each crop by the District Level Technical Committee.
- Add 10% for post-harvest and household consumption needs.
- Add 20% for repairs and maintenance of farm assets.
- Add the premium for crop insurance, accident insurance and asset insurance.
- For each following year, the limit is raised by 10% for cost escalation, so the card is sanctioned for five years.
How the interest subsidy works
Under the Modified Interest Subvention Scheme, banks give short-term crop loans at 7% a year within the subsidised limit. Farmers who repay on time get a further 3% prompt repayment incentive, so the effective rate is just 4%. Loan amounts above the subsidised limit carry the bank's normal rate.
How to use the KCC Loan Limit & Interest Calculator
- 1 Enter the area you cultivate and the Scale of Finance per acre for your main crop (ask your bank branch).
- 2 Add the insurance premium if you want it included in the limit.
- 3 Enter the loan you plan to draw and the months until you repay.
- 4 Check the rates and subsidised limit, then press Calculate.
The formula we use
Crop finance = Scale of Finance × Area
Year-1 limit = Crop finance × 1.30 + Insurance
Year-5 limit = Year-1 limit × 1.1⁴
Interest = Loan × Rate × Months ÷ 12
With prompt repayment, the subsidised part is charged at (7% − 3%) = 4%
If you grow more than one crop in a year, banks add up the crop finance for each crop and season. Enter the total per acre, or add the results.
Worked example
5 acres of wheat with a Scale of Finance of ₹25,000 per acre and insurance of ₹2,500. You draw ₹1,50,000 for 12 months.
- Crop finance = 25,000 × 5 = ₹1,25,000.
- Year-1 limit = 1,25,000 × 1.3 + 2,500 = ₹1,65,000.
- Year-5 limit = 1,65,000 × 1.4641 = ₹2,41,577.
- Interest at 7% = ₹10,500; with prompt repayment at 4% = ₹6,000 – you save ₹4,500.
Things to keep in mind
- Repay on time. Missing the due date means losing the 3% incentive and paying the full rate.
- Collateral-free limit. Loans up to the collateral-free limit set by RBI (₹2 lakh) don't need security beyond the crop hypothecation.
- Insurance. KCC loans for notified crops are usually linked to crop insurance under PMFBY unless you opt out.
- Rules change. Check the current Scale of Finance and subvention limits with your bank.
Frequently asked questions
How is the KCC limit calculated?
Scale of Finance × area, plus 10% for post-harvest/household needs, 20% for farm asset repairs and the insurance premium. The limit then rises by 10% each year for five years.
What is the interest rate on a Kisan Credit Card?
7% a year on short-term crop loans within the subsidised limit. If you repay on time, a 3% incentive brings it down to 4%.
What is the Scale of Finance?
The cost of cultivating one acre or hectare of a crop, fixed each year by the District Level Technical Committee. Banks use it to decide how much crop loan you need.
Can I get a KCC for animal husbandry or fisheries?
Yes. KCC has been extended to animal husbandry and fisheries, with a separate working capital limit worked out on similar lines.
