Fertilizer Cost Calculator

Fertilizer is one of the largest cash costs in growing a crop, and prices are not the same for every product. Urea is heavily subsidised and cheap per bag; DAP and MOP cost several times more. When you are comparing fertilizer plans – DAP versus SSP, or a complex versus straight fertilizers – the cheapest plan per kilogram of nutrient is not always obvious.

This calculator keeps it simple: enter the quantity you need of each fertilizer in kilograms (you can get these from the NPK Calculator), the price you pay per bag, and the bag weight. It works out the cost of each product, adds any other costs you enter, and divides by your area to give a cost per acre.

The prices filled in when the page opens are only an example. Prices change and differ between dealers and states, so replace them with the maximum retail price (MRP) printed on the bag or the price on your bill.

Cost of each fertilizer = Quantity (kg) ÷ Bag weight (kg) × Price per bag
Total cost = Sum of all fertilizers + Other costs
Cost per acre = Total cost ÷ Area in acres

The calculation uses the exact quantity you need, not whole bags. If you have to buy whole bags, round the quantity up to the next full bag before entering it.

• Buy against a soil test. The biggest savings come from not applying nutrients your soil already has.
• Count application cost too. Labour and machinery for spreading add to the real cost, especially for bulky products like SSP.
• Keep your bills. Fertilizer sales in India are recorded through point-of-sale machines linked to your Aadhaar; your bill is also useful for any claim or scheme.
